Assistance Fund
Diocese of El Paso Catholic Schools Scholarship Trust Fund
The Roman Catholic Diocese of El Paso created a fund for the Catholic schools in the 1980s to provide financial aid to needy students through the interest generated. In 1997 Bishop Armando X. Ochoa established this fund as a trust fund for the Catholic schools with the interest given out annually to needy students.
Various annual events and activities, grants and donations have built this fund over the past years to over $500,000.
Up until 2009-10 a percentage of the value of the investments was given out mid-year to students whose families have had unexpected financial difficulties due to illness, layoffs, or reduction in income, and the like.
Beginning with the 2010-11 school year the major portion of financial aid will be awarded so students may begin their Catholic education with some monies designated for emergency help mid-year. The mid-year financial aid helps the student who would not otherwise be able to continue their Catholic education do so.
Application forms are available from the Office of Education and the local school in early November and are due into the Office of Education by the first week of February for processing. FACTS Grant and Aid program is used to access family need.
It is our dream that the fund will grow to the extent that we would be able to fund the needs of all families desiring a Catholic education fro their child.
Donations to the fund are tax deductible.
