Diocesan Office of Education
March 29, 2010
Dear Parents,
The Catholic schools in the Diocese of El Paso offer ten opportunities for 4K-8 education and two opportunities for secondary. Fr. Yermo High School is co-ed and Cathedral serves all boys and Loretto Academy all girls. All of our schools are fully accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Accreditation Commission. Each of our schools serves the students and parents in a unique way while carrying out the charism of their founders. We encourage you to visit and decide which school matches your child’s needs and your circumstances.
As we begin the process for registering your children for the 2010-11 school year I would like to remind you of the change in the allocation of financial aid. This is the first year whereby we granted emergency aid in the spring and the bulk of the financial aid available will be distributed for the fall term. The window has closed for the spring grants and we are currently in process of applying for the fall grants. Hopefully the following procedures will help you through the process:
- Aid is granted based on financial need
- Each school will expend their funds available for financial aid before having a family apply to the diocesan fund
- The diocesan fund will have approximately $40,000 available for all students of which only up to $2,500 can be used for non-US residents
- All families must go through FACTS Grant and Aid and apply on-line
- The family must complete the form for Fall Financial Aid and have the principal complete the form for the school
- Documentation for US residents must be into FACTS, posted and verified by April 29, 2010 please note that submitting the application is not sufficient
- Non-residents must submit the documentation that is provided by the employer or filed with the government in paying taxes
- The funds are available for current students as well as new students to our schools, and Families may not receive financial aid from both the school and the diocese
It is our desire to make a Catholic education accessible for all those who desire it. We have worked diligently to grow our principal through donations and annual events. However, the principal is currently not large enough to fund all of our requests but we help those with demonstrated need with the resources available to us.
